The city a carnival,

sounds intersecting,

laughter, music

and heated conversations.

Some people lie on the grass,

others on the hot concrete.

At peace doing nothing

but feeling the warmth of the lava sun.

Beautiful, free and without borders.

No one can get in its way

because they can’t grab

something evolving, expanding,

escaping the tentacle hands

that try and pull it down to reality.

Reality?

Do people know what they’re trying to hold onto?

Do they feel anything real anymore?

Yet, here you are,

trying to escape.

Ready to melt into the sun’s horizon,

see what is on the other side.

People can say you don’t live in the real world,

But you can tell them, they don’t how to make the possible

Possible.

the mystery of life replaced with revealing too much.

Patience, the slow burn, replaced with instant gratification.

Our imaginations, hijacked by cheap entertainment that never enriches our lives,

but distorts, distracts, and exhausts.

We are never allowed to paint our lives with the colours of own choosing,

Our lives are infected by ads, convincing us we need to buy more to feel more.

When was the last time, we shared a moment with someone,

Were we didn’t look at our phones,

Didn’t take a photograph to validate our existence with those we know,

instead chose to live exclusively in the moment in the presence of someone else,

noticing the wind whispering secrets through the leaves of the trees.

It’s never too late to get those moments back,

But you can’t enjoy it, if you’re not willing to let go of what you know.

Escape those who want control.

streets look like a painter’s canvas.

Unimaginable colours from advertising screens

reflect on wet surfaces,

looking like a rainbow scattered across

the floor as it fell from the sky.

The whisper of static

as cars whip up water

before they hit the drains.

The manic dash people make,

laughing in shock

as rain falls unforgivingly

from the skies.

There are those with a steely resolve,

determined to smoke outdoors

no matter the weather.

It also brings people together

as they huddle under umbrellas.

This track has existed for awhile now. It first started off as a piano piece with lyrics, then I repurposed the lyrics to the acoustic track you're hearing now. Some of the lyrics worked really well, others felt a bit weaker. At some point I may record a version of Hourglass with lyrics I am happy with, but for now, the instrumental seems to be the strongest representation of this song.

In the spirit of not seeking perfection, I did record this in one take and left any weird sonic hiccups in.
